Kristopher C. Kern - Clinical Psychologist - Trauma, Grief/Loss, DEI
Grief, Loss and Life Transitions
When working with grief, it is so important to experience our emotions (e.g., sadness, anger, guilt) and to discuss the loss that has changed your life. It means we acknowledge the pain you are going through and find a path towards healing.
As a society we are encouraged to "put things behind us" or to think that "everything happens for a reason", but sometimes that not what we want.
I want to work with you on creating a safe space to explore and consider that what really just happened was not okay, in fact it was terrible (in fact it was really shitty) and that you really wish this did not happen to you. Your feelings are so valid and we can explore them together in a meaningful, authentic, and healing manner so that you find the strength and courage to honor who or what you have lost.
Dr. Kern has speciality training in grief couseling and helping others navigate a stressful time in their life. Training included 3 years of working with patients and families going through palliative care or hospice. additionally 2 years of training in a county hospital Oncology/Hematology clinic working with patients struggling to cope with their cancer diagnosis
Additional resources for your grieving process
Grief is not only something you experience with death: sometimes we experience a change in our role at work, sometimes we retire, sometimes it an ambiguous loss because we aren't talking to someone anymore. Loss is not a one sided thing and it is unique to each person. Grief includes loss of identity (e.g., Veteran to Civilian), loss of health (e.g., recent diagnosis of cancer), and loss can be a divorce or separation.
